Who Do We Have?

Read This Week: Numbers 4

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: “Take a census of the Kohathite branch of the Levites by their clans and families. Count all the men from thirty to fifty years of age who come to serve in the work at the tent of meeting. – Numbers 4:1-3 NIV

Who do we have? When living on mission and seeking to accomplish things, especially those called by God, it is essential to know who we’re in community with and serving alongside. It is important to see them, recognize them, understand them, trust them, and love them for who they are as we pursue the Lord’s will and purposes together. Numbers 4 is one of those chapters that identify the people of God and note those on the journey to the Promised Land. It is a detailed account of Levitical censuses, age limits, and precise duties for the Kohathites, Gershonites, and Merarites. It teaches another lesson about purpose, order, and the sacredness of doing God’s work. It reveals, once again, that every person, in every role, no matter how specialized or seemingly small, contributes to the greater mission.

In this chapter, God commands Moses and Aaron to take a census of the Levite clans between the ages of thirty and fifty, those in their prime working years, assigning each group distinct responsibilities in the care and transport of the tabernacle. The Kohathites, for example, were entrusted with carrying the most sacred objects—the Ark, the table, the lampstand, and the altars. The Gershonites managed the curtains, coverings, and ropes, while the Merarites handled the heavier structural elements, such as frames and bases. Each clan had a unique calling, a clear boundary of duty, and a direct accountability to Aaron and his sons.
What is striking here is the combination of spiritual life and organization.

It is important to see here that nothing was left to improvisation or self-assignment. Each task, whether carrying the Ark or the tent pegs, was recognized as a divine appointment. This system was not merely about logistics; it was about the holiness of order. The censuses ensured that everyone who served did so according to ability, maturity, and calling. It was a safeguard against chaos, pride, and presumption. The people were reminded, and so are we, that serving the Lord must be done His way, not our own.

This passage invites us to see our work, however ordinary it may seem, as part of a larger mission in the Kingdom. Just as the Levites’ tasks were different but equally necessary, our diverse jobs and roles contribute to the stability and flourishing of churches, communities, families, and institutions. The Bible reminds us that not all service looks the same, as not all people are the same, and that’s the beauty of it. The Kohathites could not take over the Gershonites’ duties, and neither should we envy or diminish the roles of others. True unity, whether in a church, workplace, or family, emerges when each person embraces their assignment with humility and excellence. Harmony also forms and sustains when we take stock of and understand others, their stories, spiritual gifts, talents, and callings.

The age limits in the census also carry relevance. It recognizes people in seasons of strength and readiness. It shows us that there are times to step forward, times to pray and rest, times to wait on God, and times to initiate and activate. In a world obsessed with constant productivity, these Scriptures teach that purposeful service is not about busyness but about serving within our capacity and God’s timing and direction.

We’ve seen so much throughout our studies that Father God values order, stewardship, and participation. No one was idle; everyone had a part to play in carrying the dwelling place of the Lord through the wilderness. As we navigate our own professional, spiritual, and communal wildernesses, we, too, are called to carry the presence and mission of God in the world. And because we know God always wins, we can find joy in our specific roles, to honor the contributions of others, and to serve with passion and respect, knowing that every faithful task moves the whole people of God forward together.

    Numbers Chapter 4 Verse 2
Take a census of the Kobathite division among the sons of Levi, by their families, by their fathers’ houses,

    Numbers Chapter 4 Verse 3
From thirty years old and up to fifty years old, all who can enter the service to do the work in the Tent of Meeting.

    Numbers Chapter 4 Verse 4
This shall be the responsibility of the sons of Kohath in the Tent of Meeting: the most holy things.

    Numbers Chapter 4 Verse 5
When the camp prepares to set forward, Aaron and his sons shall take down the veil, [screening the Holy of Holies] and cover the ark of the Testimony with it.

    ~God’s Holy Things~

    God Is Saying To Me:
My child, you are unique and special to Me. While serving Me and the Kingdom, I will give you a unique and specific assignment or task. Embrace your task with value and respect, emphasizing structure, Holiness, accountability, order and reverence.

    What This Means To Me:
I have a special part in serving God and I am important in the Kingdom. God expects me to approach life and service to and with Him with organization and structure. I must serve with reverence and awe of God, respecting His commands and showing the utmost care and reverence for God’s holiness. I may not serve God like the Levites, but keeping my eyes on the holiness, purity and respect of God is critical to my ministry and service to Father God must align correctly with His instructions and His will.

God Also Gave Me Insight Into Another Treasure:

    Numbers Chapter 4
    ***Refer To The Scriptures Above***

    ~Divine Expectations From God ~

    God Is Saying To Me:
On your journey with Me you will be held accountable for your obedience to Me. You are chosen, called and set apart to honor and worship Me because I have a specific plan and duty for you in your calling. Fulfilling this duty according to My instructions requires obedience over ability, understanding holiness and reverence, maturity and readiness to serve, understanding that you as a unique individual matter to Me and your assignment or calling may be different from others. Serve and honor Me with gratitude always remembering that being a servant for Me is a privilege, not a burden!

    What This Means To Me:
Just as God called the Levites to serve with honor, order and reverence, I too have been called. Throughout my dedication to willingly serve God, He may ask me to share my lessons learned with others only after I have been trained by Him and His appointed leaders. Spiritual maturity takes precedence in the Kingdom of God. However, God can use me and all of us in some form or fashion. I must always give God my full attention no matter what His calling requires from me. My role in the Kingdom matters to God, so I must give Him my best in an orderly fashion with a cheerful heart. I must prioritize God’s presence and worship in my life!

    Numbers 4 — Carrying God’s Heart Together ❤️
    His presence ️

In Numbers 4, Father God shows us something beautiful and powerful: His presence matters, and the way His people carry that presence matters too.

Aaron and his sons were instructed to go in, cover the holy things, and assign every person their specific task and load (Numbers 4:19). No one was forgotten. No assignment was random. Every detail carried purpose. Every person carried a part of God’s dwelling place.

As I read this chapter, I see Father God calling His people to move together in perfect order, working with Him and with one another. Each person had a God-given responsibility. No task was small in His eyes. Their careful obedience protected the holiness of God’s presence and kept His dwelling among them.

This wasn’t just work — it was divine partnership.
God gave the instructions through Moses, Aaron, and his sons, and the people responded. Father God’s heart was for trust and working together
with Him. They had to listen, be willing, and move together. No one could move forward alone.

Ministry has always been a family mission.
    And the enemy knows it.
He knows there is power when God’s people walk together in love, unity, and truth. That’s why he works so hard to sow division — gossip, hurt feelings, misunderstandings, comparing, complaining — anything to break unity. Because he knows that a divided people cannot carry the presence well.

But today, we choose something different if we can stay focused on the mission God called us to do!
father God wants us to choose to be people who work together on His team, people who guard His presence that now lives inside our hearts because of Jesus.

Through Jesus, we don’t just carry coverings or furniture
we carry the very presence of God Himself in our hearts
    We are His dwelling place.

And when you serve with Father God’s heart…
when you link arms with others in your church family, your home, or your workplace…
    His presence goes with you.

That is how His glory fills the world —
through ordinary people carrying His holy heart into ordinary places, helping others find freedom, healing, and hope.

So no matter what it looks like right now, remember this:

When you work with God’s heart, you are working with Him.
And when you walk with Him, you walk in victory — because God never loses.
Even when you can’t see it, believe it. Stand in faith.

“For we are coworkers with God.” — 1 Corinthians 3:9 AMP

    So today, let’s listen.
    Let’s respond.
Let’s move with Him and with one another.

And remember — when you walk with God, He wins… and so do you.
    You can pray this prayer

Father God, today I choose to walk with You.
Teach me to carry Your heart with honor. Show me my part, my load, and my assignment. I don’t want to move ahead of You or fall behind — I want to walk step-by-step in Your presence.

Lord Jesus, thank You that Your Spirit lives inside of me.
Help me guard what is holy, respond when You speak, and link arms with the people You’ve placed in my life. Remove every distraction, every wound, and every division that keeps me from serving with Your heart.

Father, can You please help me to be a person who protects Your presence, who listens, who obeys, who walks in unity, and who shines Your glory in everyday places every where I go Let Your love move through me so people can see You, know You, and be set free.

    And today I declare:
    I am a good worker God’s helper
    I carry His presence.
And I walk in victory — because my Father God never loses.

Do in me what only You can do, Father.
    In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Thank father God that we get to we get to walk with you. We get to bless people for you. Help us to be people that bring people together and do your work and protect your presence. Thank you Father God.! ❤️️✨

Did you know you are the church? Not a building. Not a location. Not a program. You. When you became a new creation in Christ, God chose to make His home in you. You are a living sanctuary—walking, talking, worshipping—carrying His presence into every place you step and every conversation you enter.

You don’t go to a priest to reach God. You are a priest in Christ.

You don’t travel to a temple to find Him. You are the temple He filled.

Everywhere you go, you are bringing God to the people around you. When they meet you, they are encountering someone who carries the presence, the message, and the character of God. That’s not something to take lightly. It’s a privilege—and a responsibility.

This is why the body of Christ is so powerful. God placed His church inside people, not inside buildings. What we call “churches”—Reach Church, or any other—are gatherings of believers. But you individually are the church God lives in. Most people who come to the Lord do so because they met a believer—a person through whom God reached them.

Everywhere I go, I remind myself: Someone may connect with God today because they crossed paths with me. That truth changes how you speak, how you respond, how you carry yourself. It reminds you that God is working through you right now, in real time, in this world.

And here’s the part people forget: every member matters. One part isn’t more important than another. Every role is essential. Every gifting has meaning. God has good plans for each of us, and He expects us to walk in them.

If you want to live as a winner in the Kingdom, you must learn to listen and follow God’s instructions—His good plans for your life. When you do, you begin stepping into divine appointments, seeing miracles unfold, and watching the Holy Spirit operate through you as the church God designed you to be.

    1. We are the church—the body of Christ. Each one of us is a living sanctuary, a walking, talking place of worship. Wherever we go and whoever we’re with, the presence of God goes with us.

    2. What we take in, what we put out, and what people receive when they come to us matters deeply because God works through His people to reach the world.

    3. Every role in the body of Christ carries value. No task is greater than another. Each member is essential, and God has good plans for every part of His body.
