The Little Things
Read This Week: Leviticus 11
These are the regulations concerning animals, birds, every living thing that moves about in the water, and every creature that moves along the ground. You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between living creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten. – Leviticus 11:46-47 NIV
Leviticus 11 is about something we all need and love: food. It outlines the dietary laws God gave to the Israelites, distinguishing between clean and unclean animals. These guidelines, often seen as ancient or overly technical, carry theological and practical implications that resonate even in our modern context. But at its core, Leviticus 11 is about holiness or God’s desire for His people to be set apart.
The chapter begins with God instructing Moses and Aaron to tell the Israelites which animals they may eat and which are deemed unclean (v. 1-2). The detailed lists of animals, clean creatures like those with split hooves and chewing the cud (cattle and sheep) and unclean ones like pigs or shellfish, aren’t random. They reflect a divine call to distinction, to a greater responsibility. These laws reflect God’s character. In verses 44-45, the Lord says to consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am holy. I am the Lord who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God. The dietary regulations were a tangible way for Israel to embody their unique covenant relationship with Yahweh. By adhering to these, they demonstrated obedience and trust, marking themselves as distinct from surrounding nations.
This theme of holiness extends beyond food. The separation of clean and unclean reflects a broader principle: God’s people are called to a greater responsibility to live differently and align their lives with His character. The laws reminded Israel that every aspect of life, even eating, was an opportunity to worship and reflect God’s order in a chaotic world. While we, as Christians today, are not bound by the dietary laws of Leviticus (see Acts 10:9-16, where Peter’s vision declares all foods clean), the principles behind them offer timeless wisdom of what is expected of us in our daily lives to reflect God’s glory even in small ways.
This passage encourages us to be mindful of what we consume. Not just food but media, ideas, and influences. Just as the Israelites were called to discern between clean and unclean, we can ask: Are we filling our minds and bodies with things that honor God and promote flourishing? For example, choosing nourishing food over unhealthy options or curating media intake to avoid toxic content can reflect a commitment to holiness. Additionally, the detailed nature of these laws required the Israelites to live thoughtfully; every meal was a reminder of their identity as God’s people. Today, we can adopt a similar intentionality. Simple practices like praying before meals, making ethical choices, or being grateful for God’s provision can transform mundane acts into spiritual disciplines and enjoyable moments with Jesus.
The dietary laws also helped Israel maintain a distinct identity as God’s covenant people. In a world of competing values, we can draw on this by cultivating habits that reflect our faith. Whether it’s prioritizing community worship, serving others, or standing firm in our convictions, our choices can signal an allegiance to God’s kingdom and the gospel mission. We don’t always understand the “why” behind everything, but obedience is an act of trust. Similarly, we may not always fully grasp God’s purposes, but trusting His guidance through Scripture or the Holy Spirit can provide us with a sense of stability in uncertain times.
For Christians, the fulfillment of the law in Jesus (Matthew 5:17) reframes Leviticus 11. The dietary laws pointed to a deeper reality that we need purity and separation from sin, which Christ accomplishes through His sacrifice. This doesn’t render Leviticus irrelevant to today; instead, it invites us to view it through the lens of grace. We’re free from the letter of the law but called to the spirit of holiness and living in a way that honors God and blesses others, even in the little things. It calls us to live with purpose, to make choices that reflect our identity as God’s people, and to trust in His wisdom. Whether through mindful consumption, intentional living, or embracing our freedom in Christ, we can embody the holiness Leviticus envisions not as a burden but as a beautiful walk with God in every area of life.
This is what I got from God in Leviticus 11. The animals are a symbol of My provision. Give thanks when you eat because I have provided for all of your earthly needs. To fulfill your spiritual needs, you must consume My Word. You must chew or meditate and pray on My Word to stay on the straight and narrow path. You must constantly persevere in your walk with Me, and you must swim with the schools of other believers to enjoy My full protection. You must lead a life of peace where you love instead of preying upon others. Search out with discipline the narrow path of the Spirit, to hop with joy in your walk. You must be pure and set apart from all that is unholy. Tithing requirements reveal you must act upon the Word to give back to others with both compassion and charity.
What this said to me is Jesus tells me not to worry about my provision. I must always be grateful for my provision. I should not complain for what I do not have. I need to consume the Word of God, to keep my heart, my mind, and my soul focused on Him. I need to memorize scripture, and be in constant prayer. God’s word gives me a lighted path for my feet. I need to constantly share God’s word. God’s light should always reflect off me.
Leviticus Chapter 11 Verse 44-45
44… For I am the Lord your God; so consecrate yourselves and be holy, for I am Holy; neither defile yourselves with any manner of thing that multiplies in large numbers or swarms.
45… For I am the Lord Who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God; therefore, you shall be holy, for I am holy.
~God Is Holy; I Am Holy~
God Is Saying To Me:
My children, I am a holy God, set a part above ALL things, pure and righteous and holy for you. You are set apart for Me and My purposes to be used as My people. You belong to Me; you are holy too!
What This Means To Me:
1. God is holy and we belong to Him.
2. We have been bought by the blood of Jesus Christ. We are sons and daughters of the most high and holy. We are holy too.
3. God sets us apart just like the Israelites have been set apart, honoring and glorifying Him for His purposes and the fulfilling of His plans for our lives.
4. May our holiness in Him work to accomplish His will and character. May our lives show that we belong to Him and help us Lord to make disciples of Nations, set apart for Your accomplishments and Your purposes in the world.
Father God Also Gifted Me This Insight In Addition To Verses 44-45
Leviticus chapter 11 Verse 46
This is the law of the beast, and of the bird, and of ever-living creature that moves in the waters, and creeps on the earth and multiplies in large numbers.
~I Am Holy! I Am Righteous! I Am The Lord~
God Is Saying To Me:
My children, I gave Jesus to fulfill the law not do away with it. Use these laws to further your walk with Me. Use the examples of clean and unclean sacrifices to assist you in your spiritual life learning what to embrace or avoid! Remember I am the word. You consume Me when you read the Bible, so look to these dietary laws to learn more on how consuming My word can help you and the kinds of worldly advice and sacrifices to avoid.
What This Means To Me:
1. Animal sacrifices were given as provision. So be grateful that God provides for all our earthly needs. but our spiritual needs come from consuming God’s word. Chew on His word everyday.
2. Search God’s heart because it’s pure and holy, and we are called and set apart from all that is unholy. Dispose of unholy, worldly habits and offer a clean and Holy Spirit to God.
3. Father God’s word will not spoil unlike the ways and sacrifices of the world. Be compassionate and give back blessings, first fruits of your life and do good works for the kingdom. God says, “blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)
️ Be Holy, For I Am Holy
Leviticus 11:44–45
Father God rescued His people from Egypt—from slavery, from false gods, and from deep oppression. He chose Moses to lead them, and through Moses, we see God lovingly teach His people how to live as His holy nation.
Leviticus is like God’s guidebook for a people who had never known Him before. He was showing them how to walk with Him—not just in worship or sacrifices, but in everyday life. He was teaching them a new way to live—a set-apart way.
It’s the same for us today.
When you first gave your heart to Jesus, He didn’t just save you to sit still. He began teaching you and you responded how to walk with Him, how to leave behind old ways of sin and people-pleasing, how to grow strong in Him.
It’s important to have people like Moses in your life too—people who will speak the truth in love and help you keep walking forward when it gets hard.
What Does It Mean to Be Holy?
God says in Leviticus 11:44,
“I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.”
To be holy means:
To be different on purpose
To desire to reflect God’s heart
To not blend in with the world
To live like you belong to Him
Holiness is not about walking around trying to be perfect. It’s about walking with Father God, with Jesus, and with the Holy Spirit daily. It’s about letting Him change your heart little by little.
God is holy. That means He is pure, never wrong, never fake, never sinful. When He says “Be holy because I am holy,” He is inviting us to walk in His ways
so we can reflect His heart to the world around us.
Think of It Like This…
It’s like being on a team:
You wear the same jersey
You follow your coach’s instructions
It’s obvious what team you belong to Jesus’ team
Holiness is like that spiritual jersey. It marks you. It identifies you. You don’t need to wear a T-shirt that says “I’m a Christian”—your life should say it loud and clear.
You’re like a walking billboard for God.
What kind of message are you giving the people around you?
Do they see:
Someone who says no when you need to?
Someone who refuses to go along with wrong?
Someone who helps and influences others for good?
We represent Jesus. That means we have a greater responsibility
not just act like Christians at church but to live it everywhere we go.
Because the truth is:
If we go along with the world, the world will never see what “set apart” really looks like.
Be His Billboard
Remember: You are a billboard for God.
Even when it’s hard.
Even when it feels like no one notices.
Even when it costs you something.
Do it anyway
because God sees you. God loves you!! It blesses His Heart ❤️
He’s the One smiling over your life.He is our help!
And He’s the One who gives you the strength to keep going.
Father God,
We thank You for Your Words in the Bible that teaches us valuable lessons. Thank You for calling us higher—to be set apart, to be holy, to wear Your name with love and reverence. We have messages to share with others!
Thank You for showing us that holiness isn’t about being perfect, but about belonging to You and living like it.
Help us to be more aware of You in our daily lives
what to do, what not to do. Keep us safe. Remind us that we are billboards for Your heart—living reflections of Your love and truth. We’re on Your team! Ty that we get to❤️️
Use us to help others be set free and walk in Your presence.
Even when it’s hard, give us courage. Even when it costs us something, give us strength. And when we feel unseen, remind us that You see everything, and You are smiling over us.You are with us ️
In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
I love you
Did you know you have a high calling—one chosen by God? As Christians, we all do. God didn’t just save us—He made us righteous. He made us holy. He set us apart. And with that identity comes a responsibility: to live in a way that reflects Him. He’s given us so much in Christ—grace, freedom, peace, and purpose. And in return, He asks us to follow Him and live a life that lines up with the blessings we’ve received.
As believers, our standard is higher. The bar has been raised. We don’t live like the world—we’re not meant to blend in. We’re called to stand out. It’s not just about avoiding sin; it’s about actively pursuing righteousness. A holy life isn’t just clean—it’s different. It’s marked by justice, love, integrity, and peace. This becomes our lifestyle—bringing light, hope, and healing into a dark world.
I’m still learning to live this way. Learning what it means to walk out a Kingdom lifestyle right here on Earth. And my goal is simple: that my life on the outside reflects what Jesus has done on the inside.
1. We’ve been made righteous.
Through Jesus Christ, we’ve been brought into right standing with God. This isn’t something we earned—it’s a gift of grace. Jesus became the final sacrifice. We no longer need altars and offerings—He paid the price once and for all. We are now righteous because of Him.
2. Holiness means living set apart.
A holy life is not about isolation—it’s about distinction. We live differently, not because we’re better, but because we belong to God. Our lives are evidence of a deeper work—a transformation that’s happening from the inside out. We live by the ways of the Lord, not the ways of the world.
3. We’re called to follow.
God writes His laws on our hearts. Through the Holy Spirit, He shows us how to live—what to embrace and what to leave behind. Following Jesus is not just about knowing—it’s about doing. It’s trusting Him enough to obey, enough to act. Faith that doesn’t move isn’t faith at all. We respond to His love by walking in His ways and stepping into His purpose for our lives.
