Obey and Be Free

Read This Week: Leviticus 26

If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit. Your threshing will continue until grape harvest, and will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety. – Leviticus 26:3-5 NIV

Leviticus 26 is as straightforward as they come in the Old Testament and in our Greater Responsibility study. It lays out the clear blessings of obedience and the distinct consequences of disobedience in striking, practical terms. As with so many chapters and passages in this book, though written thousands of years ago, its wisdom cuts straight into our lives in the modern context. It reminds us of our greater responsibility as followers of Jesus and that our choices, both personal and collective, significantly shape our lives and the world we live in.

The chapter begins with a call to loyalty. There were to be no idols, no false gods, and a deep respect for the Sabbath and God’s sanctuary. This challenge isn’t just about ancient practices or law; it’s about priorities. In today’s language, God is saying, Keep what’s sacred sacred. In our culture, driven by distraction, wealth, and comparison, the modern idols might not be statues or carved images, but rather screens, careers, trivial pursuits, or self-image. The Scriptures are always faithful in reminding us that peace and prosperity begin when we reorder our lives around what truly matters: a relationship with God, our faith, integrity, and rest. The Sabbath principle still applies: when we pause, slow down, honor boundaries, and create space for God, spiritual renewal follows.

The blessings of obedience in the section are very practical. God promises successful seasons, safety, confidence, and community: I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful… I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people (v. 9 & 12). These are not mystical or abstract rewards; they reflect the natural outcome of living in alignment with God’s word and his will. When we live with honesty, compassion, discipline, and gratitude, peace and provision tend to follow. God’s blessings often work through the very things of life He created and through other people that He loves.

But the second half of chapter 26 turns sobering. When hearts harden and obedience turns to rebellion, chaos always follows: fear, scarcity, conflict, and disconnection. The progression of warnings in verses 14-16, each more severe than the last, illustrates how ignoring spiritual correction leads to suffering and pain over time. This pattern continues to play out today in families, communities, churches, organizations, and nations. When we drift from truth, pride and self-sufficiency replace humility and gratitude, and the results are predictable. We often experience broken relationships, anxiety, exhaustion, and loss of peace. God’s purpose in discipline isn’t punishment, but restoration—to bring His people back to repentance and into a relationship with Him.

Still, the most powerful part is the ending. Even after describing devastation, God says, Yet despite this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely, breaking my covenant with them. I am the Lord their God (v.44). This is grace in action; it is God’s unbreakable commitment that outlasts our failures and shortcomings. Throughout the Scriptures, we see that repentance always opens the door to restoration and freedom. No matter how far a person or society falls, God’s mercy remains stronger than judgment, and His salvation is available to all those who come to Him and believe.

Obedience brings peace and freedom; rebellion brings turmoil, strife, and chaos. Repentance restores, reclaims, and sets things right. Leviticus 26 is an invitation to self-reflection. Are the blessings or the warnings more evident in our current season? If turmoil and brokenness surround us (especially if we are causing it), perhaps God is gently calling us to realign with His ways. To let go of false idols, rediscover physical and spiritual rest, and rebuild our foundation on love, faith, hope, and humility. The rewards aren’t just spiritual. They permeate every area of our lives, creating stability, purpose, and joy.

This chapter reflects how God continues to interact with us today. He is faithful, consistent, and pursues us in a redemptive manner. Leviticus 26 reminds us that while obedience may require our surrender and submission to Christ, it leads to the very thing we crave most, freedom and peace that lasts.

    Leviticus chapter 26 Verse 2
You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My Sanctuary. I am the Lord!

    Leviticus 26 Verse 3
If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments and do them…

    Leviticus chapter 26 Verse 12
And I will walk in and with and among you and will be your God, and you shall be My people.

    ~God’s Covenant With His People~

    God is Saying To Me:

My daughter, in case you are wondering whether I am faithful with my blessings to your obedience to Me, don’t worry in fear, but understand and be obedient to My statutes and commandments. Always revere me and My sanctuary and you will receive blessings beyond measure. Disobedience to Me has no place in the covenant you have made with Me.

    What This Means To Me:
    1. Obedience brings blessings from God and disobedience brings negative consequences.
    2. Have reverence for the Sabbath and God’s sanctuary and receive blessings paving a better way of life for myself and my community.
    3. God desires to dwell with me. If I make a poor choice on my journey with Him, He has given me a pathway to repentance, forgiveness with enduring grace and mercy to restoration with humility and confession of sin to be in right standing with Him! ❤️❤️❤️

    Leviticus 26 verse 6
Lord, you promise, peace, where fear once stayed, a quiet rest when I been afraid. You calm the storms that rage inside, in your arms, I can safely hide.

No beast nor battle will take my rest, for in your care, my soul is blessed your peace around me, strong, and true, my heart is safe because of you.

    What that means to me

To trust in him daily to let his peace take the place of fear, to rest, knowing that he is guarding our steps and soul.

Leviticus 26 — Walking Hand in Hand with Our Father
Our Fathers Heart behind everything is to walk with Him!

At the heart of Leviticus 26, I hear the Father’s gentle whisper: “I want to walk with you. I want to be your Father God, and I want you to be My people.”
Verse 12 says, “I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.” This is our Father’s heart behind everything—to walk with us, cover us with His protection, bless us, and share life with us day by day.

He doesn’t just want weekend visits or short check-ins. He wants to “hang out with you all the time”—to be your Father God and for you to live as His child. When we choose to listen and respond to His leading, He shapes our lives in ways we could never imagine.

God Uses People to Light Our Path

One of the beautiful ways Father God leads us is through people He places in our lives. Just like He gave Israel Moses, and Moses was surrounded by wise counselors, God blesses us with people who love Him and carry His truth.

We need to pray for and lean into godly voices—those who are fully “all in” for God. These are the people who won’t just go along with whatever feels easy, but will speak the truth in love, helping us stay on the narrow path.

Moses didn’t let pride block what God wanted to teach him. He leaned in, listened, and obeyed. Because of that humility, God poured out blessing. Humility opens the door to deeper things with Father God.

Daily Walking with Him, sometimes minute by minute

Walking with God is a daily choice. It’s starting your day by saying,

“Father, show me Your will today. Let’s walk together. I need You all day and all night.” You can’t wake up and ask Him anything tell Him how much you love Him ❤️

Temptations, distractions, media shows and even people can try to pull us off track without us realizing it. But walking in the Spirit is about saying yes to His nudges—even when it’s uncomfortable, even when it means letting go of something we don’t want to.

The good news is that with our Father, all things are possible.

    Jesus — Our Game Changer

What Jesus did changed everything. His life, death, and resurrection became the ultimate rescue mission, bridging the gap sin created so we could stroll hand in hand with our Father again.

Did you know Jesus is interceding for you right now?
Hebrews 7:25 — He lives to intercede for us.
John 15:1–8 — He keeps us connected to the Vine.

That’s where the fruit comes from—walking with Jesus. Through Him, the Holy Spirit grows love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control in our lives. Even in dry seasons, His living water helps us bloom and shine as a light in this world.

Trusting the One Who Set You Free

What God said to Israel still speaks to us today:

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.” — Leviticus 26:13

He has brought us out of the world, set us free, and called us His own. Yes, there will always be things trying to pull us off course—but we don’t have to stay stuck. We can keep turning our hearts back to Father God, knowing His love never changes. He is right there

He wants to bless us, walk with us, and shape our lives with His goodness.

    Final Thought

Walking with our Father isn’t just about rules—it’s about relationship. It’s about choosing to stay close, listen to His voice, welcome His guidance, and let Him shape us day by day.

    Thank You, Father God.
    Thank You, Jesus.
    Thank You, Holy Spirit.
Let’s walk with Him, hand in hand. ✨

    You can pray this
Walking Hand in Hand with your Father God

    Father God,
Thank You for wanting to walk with me, to be my
Father God, and for calling me Your child. Thank You that Your heart is not far away but close, personal, and full of love. Today, I choose to walk hand in hand with You.

Please Help me to hear Your voice clearly and respond quickly. Thank you so much!
Surround me with godly people who love You and speak truth into my life. Please Give me a humble heart like Moses—willing to listen, learn, and follow where You lead. I lay down pride, fear, and anything that keeps me from walking in step with You.

Jesus, thank You for making the way for me to come close. Thank You for interceding for me and keeping me connected to the Vine. Holy Spirit, please fill me with Your strength and guide my steps. Teach me to say yes to Your nudges, even when it’s uncomfortable, because I trust that Your way is always best.

Father, when distractions or temptations try to pull me off course, remind me of who I belong to. I am Yours. You rescued me. You set me free. I choose to keep my heart turned toward You.

Please Father help my walk with You bear fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Even in dry seasons, let me bloom in Your presence. Thank You for loving me, protecting me, and walking with me every single day.

In Jesus’ mighty wonderful and faithful name,
    Amen.

Do you think it’s better to live a life with God—following Him, walking in His ways, and being blessed by His hand—or to live life on your own, ignoring His direction, and following the ways of the world?

For any believer, the answer should be obvious. Life is better with God. He loves us, He wants to bless us, and He desires to take care of us. His plans are good, and He wants us to live a full, joyful, and meaningful life right here on earth.

But many people still turn away. Even Christians sometimes drift back into the world. They stop praying. They stop spending time in His Word. They begin to distance themselves from the things of God, from His people, and from His presence. Their lives start to look more like the world than the Lord.

When that happens, something changes. It’s not that God stops loving them—He never does—but they begin to move outside the fullness of His blessing. Now, God blesses everyone to some degree: the sun still rises, the rain still falls, and life continues by His grace. But the peace, joy, and contentment that come from walking closely with Him—those blessings fade when we drift away.

So what do we do when that happens? We turn back. We worship again. We listen to His voice. We make things right where we’ve gone wrong, and we follow His leading forward. Even if we’ve failed, His mercy is still greater. He’s a Redeemer and a Restorer, and when we return to Him, He restores what was broken and renews what was lost.

Because we have a good Father who loves His children and wants to walk closely with us. But as Christians, we also carry a greater responsibility—to stay close to Him, to keep our relationship growing, and to let His love and truth flow through us to others. That’s what it means to live under His blessing—not just to receive it, but to reflect it.

    1. Obedience Builds Blessing – When we walk in God’s ways, every part of life flourishes. True prosperity comes from alignment with His will.

    2. Rebellion Invites Ruin – Disobedience slowly dismantles everything God builds. Rebellion separates us from His peace and protection.

    3. Mercy Still Awaits the Humble – No matter how far we fall, repentance restores. God’s mercy always opens the door for those who return to Him.

    Leviticus 26 verses 3 and 4
    I have a poem
If I walk in his ways each day, and choose his truth, not mine to stray, he will send the rain, my soul will grow. Blessings will bloom with faith will flow.

For when I follow and obey, His peace and plenty light my way today I learn, through love and grace, God‘s favor rest where hearts embrace.

And what that means to me is.

To always stay faithful and obedient to God, He always provides, refreshes and blesses my life. Just as he sends rain to make all land fruitful.
